He saw the air move
He felt the others jump up against him
They were dancing, they had more energy than ever before
Dancing on the cool night air and in the grass
It was a ball, the costumes, the music
Everyone was having a ball, but
A group of Mexicans jumped them
Smiling and shouting
As their beautiful, painted skeletton faces shined
They turned out to be friends
Our group was getting ecstatic, a glorious crescendo
Some now saw the music rolling up and down sleeves,
Five Jack Sparrows dancing together didn't seem weird to them
The park behind them was shining, the lights before them melting
But between all this he saw her, another painted face
This one was different, she mesmerized him more than anything he had seen
The others knew this kind could be dangerous
They probably knew she could break you in seconds
But he didn't
Dead Man's SwitchIn control, then not -
Sudden loss of grip.
Headlong to where?
Details lost, smudged, streaked.
Careening; no system of
